Trouble ahead of Ryanair flight as rowdy passenger on way to beach music festival 'tries to punch official at boarding gate'

Police were called when trouble erupted on a party flight to a beach music festival in Croatia.

Officers were called to Terminal 3 at Manchester Airport after a small group of rowdy passengers became disruptive as they were boarding Ryanair flight FR9501 to Zadar in Croatia on Saturday night.

One of the group reportedly tried to punch a female official at the boarding gate.

He was told he would not be allowed to fly and police were called, arresting the man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

Police warned the rest of the group, but they were allowed to board the aircraft.

The drama meant the flight, packed with revellers heading to Hideout Festival at Zrće beach In Croatia, was delayed for almost two hours.

Many of the passengers were said to have been wearing fancy dress.

One passenger told the Manchester Evening News how people had gone though the gate and then as they got to the aircraft steps they were told to return to the terminal.

There, they saw police dealing with the group of rowdy passengers.

The flight, scheduled to leave at 5.40pm, eventually departed a 7.23pm and landed at Zadar at 11pm local time.

The passenger reported that the rest of the flight was without incident.

A statement from Ryanair said: "The gate agents of this flight from Manchester to Zadar (June 29) requested police assistance ahead of take off after a small number of passengers became disruptive, and one passenger was denied boarding.

"The safety and comfort of our customers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority. The flight departed to Zadar following a short delay."

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to the gate at T3 at 6.35pm and arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
