Tropicana's Funland set to reopen next week with exciting new ride

Tropicana's Funland will throw open its doors to visitors next month - and bosses are launching an exciting new ride.

On Tuesday, Prime Minster Boris Johnson announced theme parks will legally be allowed to reopen from Saturday (July 4). Most entertainment venues closed at the end of March as strict coronavirus lockdown rules were introduced.

Bosses at the Weston attraction have wasted no time in revealing their plans for customers being able to return next Saturday.

Thrill-seekers will be able to try out the funfair's latest ride, AIRMAXX, which swings visitors over 360 degrees while they are 48 meters above the ground.

Face masks may be necessary, especially when on rides, a spokesperson for the venue said.

Posting on their Facebook page, bosses said: "There will be extra measures to ensure the safety and well being of Customers and Staff.

"Face masks may be necessary, especially when RIDING - we will have them on sale or you may bring your own.

"We are thrilled that some sort of normality will begin again soon and If we follow the rules things will continue to improve.

"So let’s all continue to follow the rules and do our bit."

What is Tropicana?

In the 1960s and 70s, the town’s Tropicana was a hive of activity with its fun pool, wave machines and slides and old fashioned beauty queen and knobbly knees competitions. But after years of neglect it had been left to fall into disrepair, with many schemes heralded to bring the lido back to life falling by the wayside

But the building’s fortunes saw a massive turnaround when Bristol street artist Banksy turned it into the venue for his Dismaland ‘Bemusement’ Park in the summer of 2015.

The exhibition attracted more than 150,000 visitors over its five-week run and brought an economic boost of an estimated £20million to the local economy.

A-list stars including actor Brad Pitt and comedian Russell Brand were among those to make a visit.
