Tropical Storm Ophelia Threatens to Impact Three NFL Games on Sunday

As hurricane season continues in the Atlantic, a tropical storm has emerged that could wreak havoc on NFL games on the Eastern Seaboard this Sunday.

Tropical Storm Ophelia has continued to gain strength and appears destined for landfall in the Carolinas this weekend.

Given the current path of the storm, which has become more clear as the weekend nears, it appears that three NFL games could be affected by the bad weather, all in the 1:00 p.m. ET window.

The Commanders host the Bills in Landover, Md., while the Colts travel to Baltimore to play the Ravens and the Patriots head to the Meadowlands to take on the Jets.

As of 11:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, Ophelia had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and was positioned well off the east coast of Florida. With the current forecast, Ophelia is expected to make landfall on the coast of North Carolina on Saturday morning, where it could have sustained winds somewhere between 39–74 mph.

The sustained winds of the storm are expected to decrease by Sunday morning, but there is expected to be plenty of rain (and still some wind gusts) during the games on Sunday.

It looks like it will be a rainy and windy weekend in the Mid-Atlantic. Expect some soggy conditions for the games on Sunday.
