MIAMI _ Tropical Storm Nana, the 14th named storm of the season, has formed South of Jamaica, said the National Hurricane Center.
As of the 12:20 p.m. update, Nana was about 120 miles south-southwest of Negril, Jamaica, with 50 mph maximum winds.
Tropical storm watches were issued for the north coast of Honduras, Roatan Island and the entire coast of Belize from north of Punta Barrios, Guatemala, northward to south of Chetumal, Mexico. Additional watches and warnings "will likely be required" for Guatemala, Belize and the southern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula, the center said.
The 15th tropical depression of the season, which formed Monday evening offshore of North Carolina, continued to head away from the east coast of the United States. According to the National Hurricane Center's 11 a.m. update, it's expected to dissolve in the next few days. It could bring rough surf to the coast of the Carolinas.
The hurricane center is also tracking a tropical wave that has yet to emerge off the coast of Africa. Forecasters gave it a 40% shot at turning into a depression this week. When it does enter the Atlantic, "gradual strengthening" is possible as it moves west.
