As tropical storm "Khanun" is approaching Hainan, China, from the South China Sea, more rain is likely in the eastern part of the Northeast of Thailand on Oct 16, according to the 4am announcement of the Thai Meteorological Department on Sunday.
As of 4am on Sunday, tropical storm Khanun was moving over the upper South China Sea, east of Hainan, China, with sustained winds of 110 kilometres per hour. The storm was moving in the northwesterly direction at a speed of 20km per hour.
During Oct 16-17, the storm is forecast of be over Hainan and Tonkin Gulf before making a landfall over lower Hanoi, Vietnam. After that the storm will be downgraded to a low pressure over upper Laos.
As a result, more rain is likely in the eastern part of the Northeast on Oct 16.
As the monsoon trough is lying across the lower Central, the upper South and the East and the southwest monsoon prevaling over the Andaman Sea and the South, outbreaks of rain will continue with isolated downpours all over the country, said the announcement.
