Tropical storm Irma forms west of Cape Verde Islands

(Reuters) - Tropical Storm Irma has formed over the far eastern Atlantic and could strengthen into a hurricane by Friday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Wednesday.

Irma is located about 420 miles (675 km) west of the Cape Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 km/h), it said.
