Tropical storm expected to become hurricane before hitting Pacific coast

  • Tropical Storm Erick has formed in the Pacific Ocean near southern Mexico and is forecast to become a hurricane by Wednesday.
  • As of now, the storm is located 430 miles southeast of Punta Maldonado, Mexico, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, moving west-northwest at 12 mph.
  • A hurricane watch is in effect for the Pacific coast from Bahia De Huatulco to Punta Maldonado, indicating possible hurricane conditions within 48 hours.
  • A tropical storm watch is also in effect further south, from Salina Cruz to Bahia De Huatulco.
  • Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Oaxaca and Guerrero, with potential flooding, mudslides, and coastal flooding due to storm surge.
