Tropical depression Eight getting better organized over Gulf of Mexico - NHC

Tropical Depression Eight is getting better organized over the central Gulf of Mexico and heavy rains are likely over portions of Texas by this weekend, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Thursday.

The depression is located about 380 miles (610 kilometers) east-southeast of Port O'Connor, Texas, packing maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour (55 km per hour).

"The center of the depression is expected to move across the northwestern Gulf of Mexico today and Friday and make landfall along the Texas coast on Saturday," the NHC added.
