Trophy hunters kill 14ft alligator and pose with predator's dead body for picture

Trophy hunters in the US have captured and killed a 14ft alligator — thought to be one of the biggest caught in a state — and then posed alongside its dead body for pictures.

Derrick Snelson and his daughter, Shelby, spent 6 hours tracking the 50st animal on Lake Eufaula, Georgia on September with Lethal Guide Service, a hunting guide business.

They hooked the animal, hauled it aboard the boat and then shot it, CNN reports.

The hunters then posed for pictures alongside the alligator's corpse in their boat.

Mr Snelson said: "To be honest with you, we were just happy to see how big it was.

"I ain't never caught anything like that before, it was just amazing."

Darrell Brown, owner of Lethal Guide Service, said the animal was measured by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and came in at 14ft and 1.75in.

The catch is thought to be a new state record, with the previous record being 13ft and 10.75 in.

Shelby, 14, said the experience was "kind of scary, but awesome".

Shelby said she would "jump in the truck right now" if anyone asked her to go gator hunting again.

The Snelsons have skinned the animal to use the meat and say they plan to get it mounted.

There is an official alligator hunting season to manage Georgia alligator population — which is estimated to be between 200,00 and 250,000.

Lake Eufaula is on the Alabama and Georgia border.
