Tropfest, the largest short film festival in the world, makes a comeback in February, thanks to a funding lifeline from CGU insurance. The event was forced to cancel its scheduled December event due to a mismanagement of funds, but will celebrate its 24th year in Sydney.
Founded in 1993 by film director John Polson as a screening-event for family and friends at Sydney’s Tropicana cafe, the festival now attracts about 150,000 attendees nationally. It is also broadcast on SBS 2.
The short films must be made specially for Tropfest, and include a signature item, which changes each year. Sixteen finalists are selected each year from about 650 entries.
