Trooping the Colour: Mystery as rogue horse without rider seen during parade

A lone horse wandering around during T rooping the Colour was spotted by royal fans earlier today.

The animal was seen without his rider during the grand platinum jubilee celebrations.

Several people commented on the loose horse, although it is unclear when its rider became unseated.

One fan said: “Did I see a loose horse at one point on the parade ground?”

Another added: “Sooo fabulous, one horse trotting by without his rider. I love live theatre!”

Another replied: “What happened to the rider of the riderless horse I wonder?

“I hope he is okay. Also did someone catch the horse?”

Footage also captured a horse falling to the ground during today's Trooping the Colour parade.

The animal, which is mostly out of the camera's shot, appeared to tumble over before swiftly getting back up.

Animal Welfare Watch later tweeted an email from the British Army's Household Division saying the "horse and rider are fine".

The campaign group captioned the post: "Confirmation the horse is okay after falling/collapsing in the Trooping of the Colours parade for the Queen's Jubilee."

The Guardsmen and officers later passed by the head of state, with the monarch watching them parade as thousands lined The Mall after witnessing the pomp and pageantry of the ceremony attended by the royal family.

Ahead of the event protesters wearing crowns were arrested after running out in front of marching soldiers as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee military parade got underway.

The Animal Rebellion demonstrators were spotted on television cameras breaking through security fences at Trooping the Colour before being quickly hauled to the ground by police officers.

The Mall leading up to Buckingham Palace was full of thousands of people draped in Union flags as they look to celebrate the Queen's incredible 70 years on the throne.

Among them were the protesters who suddenly launched themselves through the security gates and laid down in front of the approaching marching band.

A spokesman for the Met Police said of the incident: "A number of arrests have been made of people who attempted to enter the ceremonial route in The Mall at approximately 10.10hrs today.”

The colourful 'Trooping the Colour' military parade, which takes place annually to celebrate the queen's official birthday, involves some 1,500 soldiers and officers.

The Queen used to take part in the parade herself on horseback until 1986 - five years after a man had fired six blank shots at her as she rode by, managing to control her startled horse in the process.
