Troon's Dean Keenan: Beating the drop is number one priority

Dean Keenan says Troon’s main goal this season will be to beat the drop – even although they were challenging for the title when last term was cut short by Covid.

Seven teams will be relegated from the Premier this season and Portland Park No 2 Keenan reckons some big names will be among them.

Troon were pushing Clydebank hard for the title when the leagues were abandoned but Keenan insists it will now be a different ball game.

He claimed: “It will be cut throat this season and there are going to be some big, big names down there.

“Our main objective will be to stay well clear of the relegation spots and then see where that takes us."

Keenan, who has hung up his boots to concentrate on coaching, reckons the club's summer arrivals have settled in well.

He added: “Dale Galloway and Jordan Lusk have stepped up from our youths and been outstanding.

"Losing James McGowan to Albion Rovers is a big blow but there are signs that Darren Miller and Tommy Maitland have developed a partnership. Sam McCloskey has also gelled into the team."
