A Christian church has warned it will have to quit their handsome B-listed home unless permission is granted for an expansion.
When many church buildings are under threat due to overcapacity, Seagate in Troon does not have enough room for the expanding accomodation.
And the evangelists have issued a stark plea to councillors . . . if we cant win permission for an extension then we’re off.
Agents Thomson Hunter say: “The general rationale for the proposed development is related to the fact that our client’s require additional space to support their active community driven activities and events operating within the existing church.
“If the existing church cannot be extended to accommodate their current requirements, the church will be looking at alternative locations with sufficient space to meet their growing congregation and support their ongoing community functions.”
Two near neighbours Ian Rawnsley and Jeanette Robertson are trying to scupper the application due to loss of privacy and light.
The original building was opened in 1847. The planned extension is on the right hand side where there is already a side entrance.
A double height window wall to the front will split the old building with the modern wood-faced and metal-roofed addition.
It will create an internal “street” lit by skylights along with an office, meeting rooms, a lift, disabled toilet and a new double height entrance lobby with staircase.
Windows to the other side of the building into the sanctuary are also planned for renewal.
South Ayrshire Council is currently looking at the application.
