Several Glasgow areas have been hit with a power cut this afternoon following an eletrical fault - including the city centre.

The Trongate area in G1 and G4 have been affected as well as the G40 Rutherglen area.

A number of homes, businesses and restaurants have been hit by the power cut in the city centre, with a number of traffic lights in the affected areas also failing.

The power failure is expected to last until 6.15pm this evening.

A statement by SP Energy Network reads: "There is an unplanned power cut in the G1, G4, G40 postcode areas of Glasgow.

"This has been caused by a fault on our electrical network. Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely and we will also send our next available engineer to investigate and repair the fault.
