'Trolling!' Arsenal fans demand Mikel Arteta announcement as Gunners post social media update

Arsenal fans are tired of waiting for the official confirmation that Mikel Arteta is to be the next head coach at the Emirates Stadium.

On Thursday December 19 the club decided to postpone their pre-match press conference ahead of facing Everton at the weekend raising expectations that the Spaniard was to be confirmed.

The Gunners are expected to invite the media to a rescheduled press conference that will unveil their permanent replacement to Unai Emery, the former Arsenal head coach dismissed in November.

Supporters have been left on tenterhooks over any new information around the announcement with the club's official Twitter account having offered very few clues beyond a relatively low rate of posts in the last few days.

Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's philosophy when he joined as a player

While the Arsenal hierarchy were busy agreeing terms with Arteta only a single tweet was posted by the club on December 19 to advertise Christmas gifts available from their online store.

They also retweeted some older messages including a game between Bernd Leno and Rob Holding over which player knew the most English slang.

On the morning of December 20, with fans all ready to hear the news they had been waiting for, the club finally posted a new update - a tweet advertising World Remit, an online payments company and one of their commercial partners.

Needless to say, the replies that followed were rather inevitable!

Arteta is set to be announced as Arsenal's new head coach ahead of the club's match with Everton on Saturday December 21.

It will be the second time that the Gunners have signed the Spaniard from a club in the north west of England.

During his playing days, the former midfielder moved to north London from Everton in 2011 and went on to become captain under Arsene Wenger.

Picking the right player to lead the dressing room will be one of his first tasks once he is confirmed as head coach.

Emery stripped Granit Xhaka of the armband earlier in the season as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang assumed responsibilities but Arteta could look to nominate a different personality to act as his leader on the pitch.
