Trolleys used as weaapons in row at Aldi over not wearing mask

A row at a branch of Aldi over wearing masks while shopping turned physical with trolleys used as weapons, according to reports.

Witnesses say a young man and an older shopper were rammed with trolleys after a row over a disabled woman who was shopping without a mask.

According to StokeSentinel the row began at a branch of Aldi when a woman who was shopping without a mask leaned over another shopper.

The man who had been leaned over by the woman, who was wearing an exemption card, complained to the woman and to the young man she was shopping with.

Shoppers say there were then multiple incidents of different people being rammed with trolleys.

One witness said: "Absolutely disgusting behaviour today in Aldi."

She added: "The man had asked a woman with the lad to keep her distance as she was not wearing a mask and leaning over the gentleman to reach for food.

"I asked the gentleman if he was OK. He said that he 'doesn’t want to be breathed on when he has been working hard through the lockdown'. People like this should be asked to leave."

A second witness claimed the young man had been hit in the legs with a trolley, and that other people were also hit with a trolley. Another witness said the man who originally complained was hit with a trolley.

Other shoppers also shared their supermarket confrontations during the pandemic.

One woman said: "This happened to me in Morrison’s a few weeks back. The woman lent over me so touching my shoulders and head. I turned and said 'please, two metres'. She just pushed me out of the way. Then, a man started on me with terrible swearing. He was with the woman. I was frightened."

And a second added: "Someone lent over me in Sainsbury’s the other week. I called her a d***head and I was the one who got told off by security."

StokeonTrentLive has approached Aldi for a comment.
