Adelaide United have reluctantly agreed to release James Troisi amid a reported bid from A-League rivals Western Sydney.
The former Socceroo only joined his hometown club in October last year on a two-year deal after exiting Melbourne Victory.
Troisi made 13 A-League appearances for the Reds last season but didn't feature when the league resumed after the COVID break due to injury.
Adelaide's director of football Bruce Djite expressed his disappointment at Troisi's exit just two weeks ahead of their season opener against Western United.
"It's very disappointing to have James come to us and request a termination of his contract so close to the commencement of the season," Djite said.
"It is vitally important that we have players at Adelaide United who want to be a part of the club."
Troisi is expected to move to the Wanderers, where new coach Carl Robinson is a long-time admirer of the 32-year-old attacking midfielder.
The former Wales international tried to lure Troisi to the Vancouver Whitecaps five years ago during his time in charge of the MLS club.
