TRNSMT revellers scratching their heads at sectioned off area near front of stage formally dubbed the 'golden circle'

TRNSMT revellers have been scratching their heads at a sectioned off area at the front of the stage, formally dubbed the "golden circle".

In 2018, the area sparked controversy for "ruining the festival atmosphere" after approximately 2000 free passes to the area were given away on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Many fans, who paid for general admission tickets, were angry as they struggled to watch their favourite acts perform from a distance.

This year the area remains sectioned off, but is available to everyone.

However, at certain times you can only access it from two entrances situated to the far left and right of the stage.

Metal fences are in place with slots to walk through at their leisure.

But in the evening time security were standing guard telling confused revellers that they have to walk all the way back to the special entrance areas marked "Front of Stage Pen".

While Blossoms played on the main stage, the Record watched as one security guard had to tell half a dozen different folk in less than a minute that they couldn't gain access through the gate.

Many pleaded with him asking if he would make an exception, but they were directed back and along.

One puzzled party-goer told the Record: "I don't understand it. I've never seen this at any other festival in the past.

"Why can't they just let us through?"

Another said: "All my pals are at the front and I've got to walk around. It's not that much of a hassle but it just seems unnecessary."

A TRNSMT spokesperson explained the system has been introduced to help manage crowd numbers.

He said: "The stage pens have two sets of entrances.

"The front two are for early access however, understandably, that area can fill up at which point, fans are directed to the two side entrances - for ease of access.

"This is a system used widely at festivals for crowd safety and flow management.

"Our site management team pay extremely close attention to crowd numbers, using the expertise of our stewards as well as onsite cctv from the central control centre.

"There are also signs around the these entrances which let people know if the early access points are currently open or closed which we’d encourage fans to check on their approach to these areas."

The 2021 festival has kicked off with a bang as revellers flooded the gates of Glasgow Green from 11am for the first of a three day music extravaganza.

The atmosphere was full of anticipation and the excitement was palpable as the stage lit up for the start of the much awaited festival.

Music fans have partied to the likes of AJ Tracey, Blossoms and Sam Fender before The Courteeners took to the stage.
