TRNSMT: Ian Brown pulls out of Glasgow Green festival and is replaced by The Snuts

Organisers of the TRNSMT Festival have this evening announced Ian Brown will no longer perform at this year's event.

The former Stone Roses frontman has pulled out of the Glasgow Green gig and will be replaced by Scots band The Snuts on the opening night of the festival.

Brown had been due to perform in front of the Glasgow crowd before headliners Courteeners on the Friday.

Updating festivalgoers on social media this evening, TRNSMT said: "Ian Brown has pulled out of cinch presents TRNSMT but we are delighted to announce that The Snuts will now join the bill."

The 58-year-old rocker sparked controversy in November last year when he shared his views on Covid-19 vaccines. Then, he commented on Twitter: "I'm not anti vaccine. Im anti THiS vaccine. Experimental rushed and flawed, sold to us by the self same devious creeps and liars who stand to share trillions."

In March he announced he would no longer play at the Neighbourhood Weekender event in Warrington this coming September, saying on social media: "I refuse to accept vaccination proof as condition of entry."

Since the comments, music fans had called on TRNSMT bosses to remove Brown from the bill.

Last week, festival organiser Geoff Ellis announced the event had been given the green light to run with no social distancing from September 10 to 12, following Nicola Sturgeon's confirmation of relaxed Covid-19 restrictions across the country.

Up to 50,000 people are expected to head to Glasgow Green for the festival, which will be headlined by Liam Gallagher and The Chemical Brothers alongside Courteeners.
