TRNSMT Festival cancelled after the First Minister's announcement that large gatherings will be off 'for months'

TRNSMT festival have announced today that their summer music events for 2020 have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Organisers of one of Scotland's biggest music festivals have stated that their performances scheduled for July of this summer can no longer go ahead, after comments from the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon yesterday, which stated that social distancing may continue until the end of the year, with any large gatherings being suspended "for months".

In a statement on Friday morning, the festival confirmed its cancellation was "unavoidable" and enforced that the "health and safety of our fans, artists, staff and community will always be our top priority."

The popular music festival was set to see acts such as Lewis Capaldi, Liam Gallagher and The Courteeners perform on stage in Glasgow this summer

TRNSMT also added:

"We are now working hard with all the artist teams to try to get the 2021 line-up as close to this year’s as we can and will be able to update on this fully over the next two weeks. We’d like to thank the artist teams for their hard work in helping us to try and achieve this. "

The festival will go ahead next year, with a confirmed date released of 9-11th July 2021. Ticket holders for the 2020 event can have their purchase carried over to the 2021 dates, or request a refund.

The line up for next year's event will be made soon, according to organisers.

TRNSMT also thanked their audience and fans for their support during this challenging time.

Most major Scottish events scheduled for this summer, with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe called off for the first time in 70 years.

The Scottish Government's daily briefing yesterday discussed how the country may transition out of lockdown into a "new normal", with the First Minister delivering the news that the road ahead will not be an easy one:

"This is the toughest set of circumstances that the vast majority of us have ever lived through, and I can't promise you that it is going to get a whole lot easier soon, but as I hope we have started to set out today, if we keep doing the right things...I do believe that there will be a way through and we will find that way through."
