TRNSMT 2019 - Police confirm 44 arrests over festival weekend

Police Scotland have confirmed a total of 44 arrests were made at the TRNSMT festival over the weekend.

13 arrests were made on Friday, eight on Saturday and a further 23 on Sunday, the BBC reports.

Meanwhile, cops launched an investigation after a woman was sexually assaulted on Friday night.

Superintendent Simon Jeacocke is quoted in the Herald as saying: “Saturday at TRNSMT was extremely positive, with attendees in good spirits at the event.

“Eight people were arrested for minor offences and, because of positive  police  searches at the gates, plus on-site partnership working with event organisers, we detected and deterred 23 people from entering the site with drugs.”

Earlier, TRNSMT organiser Geoff Ellis praised the 2019 festival, hailing it as the best yet by saying: "After three hugely successful years, TRNSMT is now an established part of Glasgow’s annual cultural calendar and we’re proud to have projected our 2020 dates into the heart of the city.

“Planning is already well underway, and we’ll continue to work closely with Glasgow City Council, councillors and local residents to make next year’s event another incredible year for TRNSMT’s audience - that are a credit to Scotland -  and the amazing city of Glasgow.

“This year’s sold-out festival was the best yet with so many highlights; from Stormzy’s police escort entrance to TRNSMT on Friday evening, Gerry Cinnamon’s huge performance on the Main Stage, the sun-drenched set from the outstanding Sigrid, Catfish and the Bottlemen’s closing Saturday night, plus George Ezra and Lewis Capaldi’s epic Main Stage performances, it was an outstanding weekend of music. We can’t wait to return to Glasgow Green next summer for another phenomenal weekend of music.”

Meanwhile, it was confirmed TRNSMT will go ahead once more next year, with dates for the 2020 festival revealed last night.
