Trix the T-Rex leaves Glasgow tomorrow

Glasgow will wave goodbye to Trix the T-Rex as she stomps her way out of Glasgow tomorrow.

Trix the Tyrannosaurus rex took up residence at Kelvin Hall this summer – following in the footsteps of her big pal Dippy the Diplodocus, who arrived at Kelvingrove Museum just across the street at the beginning of this year.

The impressive 67-million-year-old skeleton is a pretty formidable sight, at 39-foot long, 13-feet high, and a weight of about five tonnes.

And if you haven't had the chance to see her in all her glory, tomorrow will be your last chance.

The Hunterian’s Curator of Palaeontology, Dr Neil Clark, said: “Trix was around 30 when she died – making her the oldest T.rex found to date. She is also one of the most complete T. Rex fossils known and Trix may in fact be able to trace her ancestry back to the Middle Jurassic of Scotland."

He added: "Scotland is one of very few places worldwide where Middle Jurassic bones can be found. The Hunterian collected the first dinosaur footprints on the Isle of Skye in 1982 and has been at the forefront of dinosaur research in Scotland since then."

It was the final stop in Trix's three-year long tour across Europe, including Salzburg, Barcelona, Paris and Lisbon, while she waited for her new home to be built at the Naturalis Biodiversity Centre in Leiden, Holland.

Want to give Trix a roaring send-off? You can get tickets on the door at Kelvin Hall – and they're priced between £8 and £14.
