Trisha Goddard continued to work despite veins collapsing and losing nails in cancer treatment

Trisha Goddard has opened up about working throughout her cancer treatment, despite suffering a nasty reaction to the chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

The chat show host, 63, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and has recalled the devastating moment she found out.

Trisha went on to have treatment which saw her lose her nails, veins collapse and suffer ulcers on her mouth and nose.

Speaking on Piers Morgan's Life Stories this evening, Trisha says: "I found out with a laugh and a cry at the same time because I remember the guy doing an ultrasound and I said to him, So have I got cancer yes or no?? He said I'll send the results to your surgeon. And I said, tell me now. And he said, no, I'll send the results to your surgeon. And I said, how long have you been doing this for?

"He said, Nineteen years. I said, so you know breast cancer when you see it. He said, yes. I said, right, I promise you I won't sue you, but tell me now, do I have breast cancer, tell me now, here. And he said yes and I went [whimpers]. I had two operations, seven, eight months of chemotherapy, basically a year of radiotherapy."

"And really, I mean nasty," responds Piers. "Your veins collapsed. You lost nails, ulcers. You had a brutal experience."

Trisha says: "Yeah. Apparently I really reacted badly. I had ulcerated nose. Mouth."

Piers points out that she carried on working, to which she replies: "Oh yeah."

He asks: "Does anything stop?"

She replies: "Listen, that show had my name on the back. I remember ringing up my business partner, the gorgeous, amazing Malcolm Allsop. Malcolm I’m really sorry. I've got breast cancer."

"Only you would apologise," remarks Piers.

"I know, but I said I will keep going. I will. I promise," Trisha says.

Piers says: "You get over cancer, you’re cleared of it. September 2008. The treatments over you tell the press. Great moment, I should think."

Trisha responds: "Yeah, it was. Although I never feel completely out of the woods because every year, because of the nature of my cancer, I have to go back every single year and be checked."

He adds: "And so you'll never out of the woods with it?"

"Not really," she replies. "It's remission."
