AGARTALA: Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Friday announced at least 500 women constables will be recruited to strengthen the police force soon, in addition to the reservation of 10% women in state police while addressing a mega blood donation camp at Jirania police station.
He said the state government is now working on economic self-sufficiency along with empowerment of women and to increase women's participation in development sectors. Appreciating the efforts of state police, Deb said the conviction rate has gone up and the crime rate has been curbed in the last two years.
The chief minister said Tripura recorded a 28.08% drop in road accidents last year in comparison to 2019. Similarly, the incidents of rape has been come down to 15.4%, dacoity 62.5 %, snatching incident 81.8%, crime against women came down to 15.4%, atrocities on women down to 29.4% while overall crime against women has come down to 19.6% in the year 2020, he claimed.
Deb said from 2018 to 2020, the conviction rate in IPC cases has increased by 10% and the investigation process is also faster now. He appealed to the women of the state to come forward to protect the new generation of the state from the menaces of HIV and drugs.
