AGARTALA: The South Tripura district court on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl in September 2020.
The district and sessions judge of South Tripura district convicted Chiranjit Pal (28) under sections 341, 376, 506 of Indian Penal Code and section 4 of POCSO Act and later awarded him a rigorous imprisonment for 20 years.
Pal, who is married, raped the minor when she had visited his house with one of her relatives. He had gone to a rubber plantation in the night and invited the minor to join him and asked her to bring along some cooked meat for a booze party. As soon as the minor reached the spot, he raped her. According to the victim, Pal threatened her and asked her not to divulge the incident to anybody.
