Tripura HC asks govt for probe progress report

AGARTALA: The High Court of Tripura on Monday asked the state government to apprise the court on October 7 about the progress of investigation in the attack on five media houses and ransacking of party offices of the opposition CPM, including its headquarters early this month.

During the hearing of a PIL, the HC was informed that one of the prime accused involved in attacking the four media outlets in the capital city, identified as BJP youth front leader Raghunath Lodh, was arrested on Sunday in the city and sent to two days’ judicial custody by alocal court. The crime branch of Tripura police has been trying to arrest the others but the government couldn’t provide the satisfactory reply on the progress of the investigation.

After hearing the case, a division bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and SG Chattopadhyay rescheduled the hearing of the case on Thursday and directed the government to apprise the court about the progress of the investigation. The HC had set Monday as the date for the government for an update on the progress of the investigation.

Sources said 25 days after the incident and a day before the court hearing, the police arrested a prime accused and since since they could not produce the case diary, the court sent him to jail.
