Tripping on acid in the name of science, 1956 style

From the 1950s, when science and the media were making their first hesitant embrace, comes this vintage footage of an "average person" filmed taking LSD.

"Can't you feel it?" asks the subject as the acid takes hold. "This whole room – everything is in colour. I can feel the air, I can see it, I can see all the molecules, I'm part of it. Can't you see it?"

Later: "I've never seen such infinite beauty in my life."

This rare clip was unearthed by author Don Lattin, doing research for a book he's writing on the era, which he discusses here.
