Triple triumph by dynamic Douglas

An inspirational fundraiser has raised over £1000 in just one month for a local charity.

Douglas Simpson from Crieff has named last month ‘Super September’, after taking on three running events to raise money for CHAS.

As a keen runner, he said he was delighted when he was given a place on the Great North Run in Newcastle, and decided to set himself a challenge by taking on two more in the same month - the Snowdonia Skyline in the Welsh mountains and the Ben Nevis Ultra.

So far, he has raised over £1000 for the children’s hospice service, which includes Rachel House in Kinross and supports families with children with life-shortening conditions.

Douglas said: “I have visited Rachel House and seen first hand the impact the staff and the organisation as a whole have on the families and children living with rare and life-shortening conditions.

“It is a truly moving experience and a place that brings great support and much joy to all the families.

“It is a place to celebrate life as well as assist with the emotional loss of a loved one so young.

“It is a place where good people do good things.

“We can all do good things for others.”

In Scotland nearly 16,000 children and young people live with life-shortening conditions, and CHAS is determined to reach every single one of them by offering palliative, respite and end-of-life care at its hospice in Kinross and at Robin House in Loch Lomond.

Rachael McDonald, challenge events assistant at CHAS, said: “It’s amazing to see Douglas really push himself to the limits by taking on this trio of challenges.

“Douglas should be so proud not only of the physical achievement, but also proud that his efforts will truly help CHAS in our mission to reach every family in Scotland who face the unthinkable reality that their child will die before them.

“Thank you so much Douglas - you’re incredible.”

Donations are still being taken through Douglas’s online fundraising page at www.gofundme.com/f/superseptemberCHAS
