TripAdvisor reviewer criticises Welsh lake over lack of McDonalds

The bizarre mindsets of TripAdvisor reviewers can amuse and infuriate in equal measure.

Beauty spots like Snowdon have been attacked for their height, while plenty of Welsh restaurants and cafés have hit back by handing out lifetime bans to negative reviewers. You can see 25 times TripAdvisor reviewers showed us how awful Welsh landmarks really are here.

The most recent strange review was left on a Welsh lake, Llyn Geirionydd, in Conwy. The mile-long lake covers an area of 45 acres on the northern edge of the Gwydyr Forest and below the slopes of the Carneddau mountains. Most reviewers marvelled at the site's beauty and how the spacious area allowed easy social distancing while exploring.

Out of the 26 reviews, 20 people rated the site as five stars - only two people rated it as average or terrible, North Wales Live reports. One reviewer who gave the beauty spot one-star blamed the lake’s beauty for distracting them and causing them to capsize their kayak “which was very distressing”. They also complained that the lake's water was too cold, that they had no signal, and about the location's lack of a McDonalds, KFC and Burger King.

In a review, which could well be entirely tongue in cheek, the reviewer from Newcastle upon Tyne, identified as ‘Fwg123’, complained the lake was too cold, has too many rocks and its beauty was too distracting. On August 26, 2020, they said: “Visited this lake in the middle of summer but I was still cold. What’s the deal?!?! Had to go up and down a lot of hills to get there. AND NO SIGNAL?! ALSO THERE WERE TOO MANY ROCKS.

“I wanted a McDonalds but there wasn’t one anywhere. How am I supposed to eat out to help out if there isn’t a McDonalds anywhere?! I also would have been ok with an appropriate alternative like KFC or Burger King or even Subway. It did look nice but that distracted me and I capsized my kayak which was very distressing. Thank you Wales Gods that I got out alive.”
