Tripadvisor looked into Brits' summer plans to determine the most popular travel dates

As lockdown restrictions begin to ease across the UK, it's no surprise that holiday-starved Brits have already begun booking staycations for the summer.

In fact, while conducting research into Brits' travel plans for the sunnier months, Tripadvisor uncovered that two weeks are proving particularly popular for getaways.

The first is the week beginning June 28, the second is the week beginning July 26. So, if you're hoping to enjoy a break before the peak crowds, you may want to consider alternative weeks for your trip.

It's no surprise to see late June proving popular - under England's current roadmap it's hoped that June 21 could be when restrictions on social contact are lifted. In fact, firms have already noted surges in group bookings, with one firm noting a 600% spike earlier this year.

Meanwhile the July dates are not hugely surprising either - that week falls right in the middle of the school summer holiday dates.

For those after UK holidays inspiration, Tripadvisor has delivered by revealing the most popular UK destinations this summer, with Torquay in Devon leading the charge.

With months of lockdown, it's no surprise that the research also revealed UK holidaymakers are planning to take a higher number of holidays when restrictions lift - and they're planning to stay away for longer too.

In fact, nearly half of Brits surveyed said they plan to take two or more holidays, while one in eight are looking to book at least three getaways when they can.

With ongoing uncertainty around foreign travel, staycations continue to reign supreme. 41% of Brits said they will be taking a staycation this summer, compared to 14% who said they plan to head on holiday abroad if restrictions allow.

We're due to get an update from the government in early May regarding whether non-essential international travel can resume from May 17 (the earliest date the government has given), including where Brits could actually go.

When travel does resume it will be under a traffic light system with countries placed on a green, amber or red list which will determine rules around quarantine and testing when you're home.

There are some strong contenders for the green list as well as countries likely to be on the amber list, although we don't yet have confirmed destinations. There is already an existing red list of 40 countries which require UK arrivals to quarantine in a hotel for at least 10 days.

Have you booked a staycation, or are you holding back until the green list is announced? Let us know in the comments below.
