Trio of English clubs 'keen' on Nottingham Forest misfit set for free transfer this summer

Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor is attracting interest from two Championship clubs and a League One play-off finalist ahead of the summer transfer window.

A report by Football League World says three English clubs are “keen” on the 33-year-old front man with Millwall, Rotherham United and promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday said to be big admirers of the player.

There is also reported interest from the MLS in Taylor’s services but it is believed that the forward’s preferred option is to remain in England. Taylor is expected to leave the City Ground when his current contract expires at the end of next month, having been frozen out at the Premier League outfit.

Taylor failed to make a single appearance for Steve Cooper ’s side in the 2022/23 campaign as they retained their top flight status with a match to spare. His last competitive outing came during a productive loan spell at Birmingham City a year ago.

After turning 33 in March, Taylor reflected on the past year. He posted on his Instagram account: “So as the sun rises on my 33rd birthday, it’s time to look back first and forward last.

“This has been, by far, the hardest year of my life! So many battles won and lost. So many lows, so few highs. But, as I always said…

“No ****** is gonna beat me! So here’s to the stubborn ******* born on a Thursday 33 years ago that is me! And to those who have been along for the ride, I love you all!”

Taylor’s previous clubs include Bournemouth, Sheffield United, AFC Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic. He made his name at AFC Wimbledon, scoring 55 goals and claiming 21 assists in a three-year spell to earn a move to Charlton.

There is a strong possibility Wednesday will look to revamp their forward line this summer. Both Lee Gregory and Callum Paterson are out of contract. Much could depend on what division the Owls are operating in next season.
