Trio drive 150 miles from London to East Midlands beauty spot 'because lockdown is boring'

Three men who police say travelled hundreds of miles to an East Midlands beauty spot told officers they broke lockdown rules because it is "boring".

The group was pulled over yesterday (Monday, February 8) by police in a silver Volkswagen in the Peak District at Baslow, near Chatsworth House.

Derbyshire police officers say the men had travelled more than 150 miles from London the same day.

The men were then told they were going to be given Covid fines for breaking lockdown rules.

But things got worse for them when police claim they didn't have valid driving licences, and had been relying on Albanian ones that expire after 10 years of residency.

Police seized the car, meaning the men were left to find an alternative way home, Derbyshire Live reports.

In a post on Facebook, the Bakewell, Hathersage and White Peak Villages Police Safer Neighbourhood Team wrote: "Baslow. Three visitors to Derbyshire from London because lockdown is 'boring'.

"Unfortunately, Albanian driving licenses don’t work here after 10 years of residency so vehicle seized.

"A long walk and Covid fines incoming."

It comes after Leicestershire Police fined a West Bridgford couple last week for driving 13 miles to watch planes take off from East Midlands Airport.
