Trio arrested on suspicion of intent to supply 'laughing gas' canisters

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of intent to supply 'laughing gas’ in towns across the north of the county.

The men, all aged 23, were taken into custody on June 3 as part of an operation to target Nitrous Oxide misuse after reports of canisters left scattered across Radford Street in Manton, Worksop.

Whilst the gas can be legally purchased, supplying to others is illegal if likely to be used for its psychoactive effects.

Users can experience blurred vision and nausea and it is illegal to use it whilst driving. There is also a "common link" to antisocial behaviour, according to police.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Robert Holmes said: "It's a complete nuisance that people seem to have been abusing Nitrous Oxide in this way and we are keeping a close eye on it after seizing numerous empty canisters.

“We are operating increased patrols in the area and are also working with the local council to target the offending and utilise the CCTV that's available there.

"We'd also like to remind people that littering is an offence and anyone found committing it will be fined.”

The men have since been released under investigation and the enquiries are ongoing.
