Trio arrested on gun charges after Joliet traffic stop

Three men are facing felony gun charges after a traffic stop Sunday in southwest suburban Joliet.

About 1 a.m., Joliet police notified Will County sheriff’s deputies about reports of shots fired in the area near Florence Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office. Dispatchers gave the deputies a description of a vehicle involved in the shooting.

Deputies spotted a vehicle matching the description a short time later near Second and Baker avenues, according to the sheriff’s office. They stopped it and spoke with the men inside.

The driver, 21-year-old Quentin Weekley, told police he had a gun inside the vehicle with a valid FOID card, authorities said. Deputies confirmed the FOID card, but found his loaded .45-caliber handgun with its serial number scratched off.

A partially loaded .40-caliber handgun was discovered on the back seat near 22-year-old Jeri Kinney, according to the sheriff’s office. A fully loaded third weapon was also found on the back seat near Alvin Loggins, 21.

Weekly was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a firearm and defacing identifying marks on a weapon, the sheriff’s office said.

Kinney and Loggins were each charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card, unlawful use of a weapon without a FOID card and unlawful possession of a firearm/ammunition, according to the sheriff’s office.

Weekley’s bail was set at $2,000, the sheriff’s office said. Kinney’s bail was set at $25,000 and Loggins’ bail was set at $15,000.
