Trio are hoping to inspire copycat gardeners

A trio of folk worried a patch of land was going to seed knew the council  had abandoned its maintenance during lockdown.

Instead of letting it go wild, they carried out a spot of private intervention.

Their actions in Troon could now spark copycat gardeners across the area, keen on retaining civic pride.

Not so much guerilla gardeners, but top trimmers.

The small patch at the end of Charles Drive is always neatly tended by the squads from South Ayrshire Council.

On Wednesday retired businessman Alastair Hill linked up with joiner Walter Barr and gardener Bob Young to tackle the spruce up.

Walter also sits on Troon Community Council, as does his wife Dawn.

Dawn said: “It was Alistair Hill who kindly offered to help as it was getting a bit wild and would be difficult to get it back to looking nice when this is over. So Alistair, Bob and Walter set to it and got it cut back and it now looks very good.

“As we know South Ayrshire Council is under pressure so a bit of community spirit doesn’t go amiss in these strange times!”
