Trinity Square fire: Quick response by firefighters stops fire in Nottingham city centre from spreading

Firefighters were praised by their command centre early on Monday morning for quickly bringing under control a fire that had broken out at a building in Nottingham's city centre.

When the alarm was raised after midnight, eight fire engines rushed to Trinity Square - an area packed with shops and student accommodation blocks.

The area was sealed off and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue put out a request on social media for anyone nearby to keep clear of the immediate area.

In a tweet at around 2.30am, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We currently have eight fire engines in attendance at a fire at Trinity Square. Crews on scene are working hard to extinguish the fire.

"If you're up and out in the City Centre, please avoid this area."

About half an hour later, the fire service was able to issue another bulletin on Twitter to say that the fire had been extinguished.

Damien West, the head of corporate support for the Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, also posted a message on the social media platform, praising the crews. He said: "Another great weight of attack and decisive command decisions tonight to deal with a small fire that presented a challenging scenario. Well done to crews who attended!"

He added that the service's fire prevention and business safety teams will be "supporting the businesses and citizens involved".

In a tweet after 3.10am, the fire service said: "The fire is now out and a Fire Investigation will commence later today."
