Trinity Leeds restaurant Carluccio's faces closure as chain goes into administration

A Trinity Leeds restaurant faces possible closure after the chain fell into administration.

Italian themed restaurant group Carluccio's has 71 restaurants in the UK and employs 2,000 staff. Those employees now face an uncertain future with issues being magnified because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The chain, which was founded by Antonio Carluccio in 1991, has confirmed its hired advisory firm FRP to oversee its administration.

Geoff Rowley, joint administrator and partner at FRP, said: "We are operating in unprecedented times and the issues currently facing the hospitality sector following the onset of Covid-19 are well documented.

"In the absence of being able to continue to trade Carluccio's, in the short term, we are urgently focused on the options available to preserve the future of the business and protect its employees.

"We welcome the latest update on the coronavirus job retention scheme and look forward to working with HMRC to access the support it provides for companies in administration and their employees.

"As this fast-moving situation progresses we will remain in regular communication with all employees and key stakeholders, and will provide a further update in due course."

At current, the Ireland strand of the business and its franchise business in the Middle East are unaffected by the administration.

The news comes after Chiquito announced major closures last week. In Leeds, before the coronavirus pandemic, we’d seen lots of high profile shops, restaurants and attractions close in 2020. There’s a strong possibility that will get worse following the coronavirus pandemic.

It has forced restaurants in Leeds and across the country to move to solely delivering food. While, huge events in Leeds and across Yorkshire have been postponed or cancelled because of the outbreak.

We’ll bring you more on the future of Carluccio’s when we get it.
