Trinity College's Science Gallery set to close permanently next year

The Science Gallery at Trinity College Dublin is to close permanently next year.

This closure is due to the Gallery not being financially viable, according to the college.

The Covid-19 pandemic is said to have had a major role in coming to this decision.

The Gallery only reopened its doors last week.

It first opened its doors in 2008 and was part of a global science gallery network with locations in London, Melbourne, and Berlin.

None of the other galleries will be closing permanently, according to the Busines Post.

People have been quick to take to Twitter to slam the decision

One user wrote: This is really sad and also really short-sighted. Quite apart from the loss to science outreach it was also one of the few things that actually drove footfall down to a part of town that is effectively dead space because of TCD overdevelopment."

Another questioned whether the building would be used for student accommodation once the gallery closes.

He tweeted: "Dublin's Science Gallery being closed down by Trinity College for not making enough money. No doubt there plans to flog off the building for low quality student accommodation. Or another badly needed city centre hotel."
