Trinamool asks leaders not to speak on I-Pac

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress has asked party leaders not to comment on I-Pac, the political advocacy group helping it in its Goa, Tripura and Meghalaya forays.

On Thursday, TMC Lok Sabha leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay reportedly asked senior MP Saugata Roy not to speak on the issue. Roy remained unreachable for comment. Party leaders also refused to speak on it.

Roy had earlier issued a statement defending I-Pac, even suggesting in his career spanning over three decades he hadn’t come across such a team of talented individuals working in politics.

The statements came in the wake of several uncorroborated media reports suggesting frosty ties between I-Pac and TMC, particularly on the nature of its continuing role in Bengal. Senior party leaders, including CM Mamata Banerjee, have not spoken on the issue.

After the 2021 assembly polls, I-Pac and TMC entered into a contract that will see the group helping the party beyond the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Presently, the group is involved in helping TMC’s campaign in Goa.
