Trillick 0-12 Errigal Ciaran 2-04: Trillick add another Tyrone title to collection

Trillick won their eighth Tyrone senior title yesterday in a disappointing final at Healy Park.

Over 6,000 fans looked on as Trillick led 0-5 to 1-1 at the end of an uninspiring first half, with both sides set up defensively. Five of the seven first half scores came in the opening six minutes.

Ryan Gray, Lee Brennan and wing back Michael Gallagher put Trillick 0-3 to 0-1 in front before Errigal Ciaran opened their account in the fifth minute as Pauric McAnenly laid the ball out for Peter Harte to dissect the posts.

Sixty seconds later they were given the gift when a mistake by Trillick keeper Joe Maguire saw teenager Odhran Robinson finish to the net.

That proved to be their last score of the first half as they hit seven wides.

James Garrity turned sharply to level in the 10th minute. The rest of the half was miserable with a 47m Brennan free the only other score.

Trillick kept Mattie Donnelly inside in the second half and the Tyrone star opening the scoring and Brennan hit another free before Cormac Quinn ended Errigal’s 39 minute drought. Trillick were looking sharper and
Donnelly turned sharply to split the posts again. Brennan knocked over another placed ball before corner back Damian Kelly joined in with a score.

Another Brennan free was followed by a Richard Donnelly point and with Rory Brennan to the fore in defence Errigal were running out of time.

Substitute Darragh Canavan won a harsh late penalty which Harte buried but moments later the final whistle sounded.
