Sometimes, your washing machine can start to smell a little bit gross, and you may wonder what's causing the funk. In most cases, it will be the seal around the washing machine, as it could be covered in mould without you even realising - causing an overwhelmingly damp smell.
You may wonder how to clean the rubber seal once you spot the issue, and luckily some clever cleaning obsessives are on hand to help.
One person took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group to ask what they could do to clean theirs, as it was covered in a large amount of unsightly mould which had built up over a period of time.
She wrote: "Hi first time posting hoping someone can help. I was given a washing machine and I'm very grateful for it.
"There is bad mould/black marks on the rubber seal by the door what can I use to get rid of it please? Anyone actually tried anything that's worked, thank you for any help."
Along with the post, she shared a photo to highlight the extent of the problem.
A popular suggestion in the comments was to use some kitchen roll in bleach and leave it to sit around the rubber until the mould had been removed.
A Mrs Hinch fan wrote: "Pack rubber with folded sheets of kitchen roll and soak with bleach leave overnight, then remove and put on an empty wash."
Someone else said that 'any cheap bleach' worked, and it can be bought for as little as 60p from Wilko.
Another commented: "Kitchen roll soaked in bleach and stick on all where mould is and leave overnight. Take all paper out, wipe out and run empty on the hottest wash you have. The black stains will be gone.
"Wipe the rubber seal out every time you wash, leave it open and the mould won't come back. Also, clean your soap drawer out and where the drawer goes in once a month at least."
