Tributes to 'wonderful' woman killed on A48 between Cardiff and Newport

Tributes have been paid to a "wonderful" woman killed after being hit by a car on the A48.

Gwent Police were called to the scene in Castleton at around 1.45pm on Tuesday after reports of a serious crash.

Police said the crash involved a grey Volkswagen Fox and a female pedestrian.

They have now named the woman as 77-year-old Pamela Blatchly from the Newport area.

The A48 was closed for a number of hours (Google)

The family of Ms Blatchly said: "All of us are in complete shock at the moment and we are still trying to come to terms with the tragic loss of Pam, she was a wonderful, kind and generous lady who will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

"We would appreciate some time and privacy to grieve.”

Specialist officers are supporting her family, and officers are continuing to investigate the crash.

There were no reported injuries to the driver of the car.

Police are requesting any motorists who used the road around the time of the collision to check any dash cam footage that could help.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101 or via direct message on Facebook or Twitter, quoting reference 1900353710.
