Police have named a teenager who was recovered from the River Trent.

Officers in Derbyshire confirmed 15-year-old Thando Ndlovu died after getting into difficulty in the water on Tuesday, July 20.

His body was sadly found in the river near Swarkestone Bridge In Derbyshire the next day, on Wednesday, July 21, after an extensive search and rescue operation, Derbyshire Live reports.

Since then family and friends have laid tributes at the River Trent, with a large gathering taking place on Thursday afternoon, July 22, to allow people to share their memories of him.

Bouquets of flowers have been left at the scene, as have written tributes and balloons.

In the heart-breaking tributes, Thando is described as "the best of us" and as having "the kindest" heart.

Chellaston Academy, where he was a student, is offering support to students affected by his passing.

In a statement released on Thursday, it said: "Following the loss in our school community, we are making every effort to support our young people at this difficult time.

"Today we have delivered live assemblies to reassure students of the support available to them.

"Our site is open for anyone wishing to access support at the following times: Today until 5pm, Friday 9am – 5pm, Saturday 10am – 12pm.

"Support will continue over the summer holidays and beyond."

Football club Melbourne Dynamo FC, where Thando was a player, said it was "tragic" news.

In a statement release on Thursday, it said: "It is with grave sadness that we can communicate that a 15 year old member of our footballing family has sadly lost his life.

"The circumstances around this are still subject to investigation.

"We ask you to provide support to friends and family impacted by this tragic news.

"Our thoughts and prayers are for his family at this time and the leadership of the club is here in any capacity to support those impacted by this tragic news.

"We are in close contact with Chellaston Academy and have attached their wellbeing flyer for students on our club website.

"As we learn more we can better understand how we can support those affected in the community and honour and remember the player."
