Tributes to Southwell estate agent after his death at the age of 92

Tributes to Nottingham estate agency stalwart, Doug Gascoine have been pouring in, following the Southwell businessman's death on Monday, March 25.

At the age of 92, DG as he was known, still took an interest in the businesses, although daughter Emma who has been running the estate agency practice alongside her father for some time, said he had taken a backseat in more recent months.

"We will be carrying on his legacy," she said.

He opened his first office in Westgate, Southwell back in 1954, growing the business until at one point there were 10 residential property sales offices across the county alongside the furniture auction centre and cattle market.

Today, the changing face of property sales has reduced the estate agency office requirement to two branches - Southwell and Ravenshead - offering residential rentals and sales.  The Gascoines empire still incorporates Newark Cattle Market and furniture sales.

Doug died peacefully and suddenly at 8.45pm on Monday, March 25, 2019, with his wife Rachel at his side and surrounded by family.

The funeral will take place at Southwell Minster on Tuesday, April 9, at 3.00pm.  Family flowers only, but donations, if desired, to Cancer Research, c/o David Hall Funeral Directors, Verne House, 62 King Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire NG25 0EN.
