Tributes to school's first headteacher and 'hard working' founder

The founder and first head of a Merseyside school has died at the age of 94.

Sister Mary Magdalen, who founded Maricourt Catholic High School in Maghull, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 2nd September.

Sister Mary, a member of the Catholic religious order the Sisters of Mercy, held the position of head teacher for 32 years, finally retiring in 1989.

A tribute posted on the school's website said she was "one of the most influential figures in Liverpool's academic history."

It added: "For those who knew her, she was an incredible person and an inspiration as a Sister of Mercy and a head.

"When we look around us, we can see the fruits of her hard work, determination, and faith.
