Tributes to Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts from Scot stars as 'humble' and 'sweet' man remembered

Annie Lennox, Gun, Fran Healy, Dougie Vipond and more Scots celebrities have shared their personal memories of Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts.

Rock legend Charlie passed away today surrounded by his family in hospital at the age of 80, and the world has paid tribute to a man who made drumming an art.

Scots celebrities also shared their very special memories of the musician.

Glasgow band Gun who supported the Rolling Stones on their 1990 Urban Jungle tour remembered how welcome Charlie had made them feel when they joined them on the road.

They wrote: " Hey Gunettes and Gunners, just heard the sad news about Charlie Watts.

"Gun were very lucky and fortunate enough to support The Stones 1990 urban jungle tour where we got to also hang out with them.

"Charlie would come into our dressing room many times and asked if we were all good? Made us feel so welcome. He kept saying to us, if we need absolutely anything to just ask!"

"A real sweet down to earth man who was so quiet but adored by millions. There will never ever be a Charlie Watts, a true gentleman and with his unique style of drumming that made him a one off!

"It’s was an absolute pleasure to have met you and known you. Our hearts are broken! XX"

Deacon Blue Drummer Dougie Vipond recalled Charlie's quiet un rock-n-roll-like stance and wrote: "Ach...Charlie! Loved what this humble man did..left lots of space for the other members of the band to flourish. RIP."

Singing legend Annie Lennox said of Charlie: "Legend… R.I.P Charlie Watts." as she shared an old picture of the star, while daughter Lola also simply put RIP Charlie Watts.

Travis star Fran Healy suggested that everyone should pull together to remember Charlie.

He Tweeted: " @RollingStones To honor Charlie, everyone should open the windows of their cars and houses and offices and play”Get Off My Cloud” in a massive record breaking synchronized playback. #charliewatts."

BBC presenter Janice Forsyth added: "Zen and the Art of Drumming. Just wonderful."

And author Irvine Welsh wrote: "RIP Charlie Watts. Always steadfastly came over as a no-nonsense honest broker in a situation where the acclaim, wealth, pomposity and egotism could corrupt the sweetest of souls."
