He served his community for 25 years as councillor for the Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh ward and was also chair of the planning committee.

Lex had four children with his wife Ann and doted on his 10 grandchildren and great grandchild.

Tommy said: “He was a fantastic dad, husband, grandad and friend to many and he was a hard working councillor for all his constituents, whatever he could do, he would do it.

“Over his 25 years he was helped hundreds, if not thousands of people and he always did the right thing for the community.”

Tommy continued: “He was a real family man and would spend as much time as he could with his grandchildren, they were all special to him and they all thought he was special, they all have some great memories of him that they will cherish forever.”

Born and bred in Broxburn, Lex’s first jobs were in a sweet shop and a fishmonger in Edinburgh, before he became bus conductor on the
Eastern Scottish SMT, where he became well known among the local passengers.

He also worked at the Royal Elizabeth Yard, DTL and Millers at Motherwell Bridge.

Tommy said he wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Holmesview Care Home who had looked after his father so well, adding “I cannot praise them highly enough.”

Lex’s funeral will be help on November 25, the cortege leaves Thomas Brown, Broxburn at 2pm heading to Uphall, then onto Livingston Crematorium via Pumpherston and Uphall Station and Tommy hopes people will come out and pay their respects as it passes.

Tributes have been paid to Lex from local politicians.
