Tributes to Liverpool dad and mentor who was 'one of the most gentle spirits'

Tributes have been paid to a much-loved Liverpool dad and "community champion" who inspired many across the city.

Activist, mentor, youth worker and programme developer Paul Kincade, who dedicated his life to helping young people achieve their creative potential, has died aged 64.

Friends and colleagues spoke of a "beautiful friend and role model" who inspired countless young people over the years.

As director of the Everyman Youth Theatre, Showrunners and Liverpool WAC, Paul also ran inclusion projects with colleague Andy Griffith as project director of MALIT Ltd.

Working across the city from Bootle to Toxteth, Paul, who lived in Mossley Hill, won a number of community champion awards for his work with young people.

He first became involved in youth work as a teenager himself in East London, going on to study Youth and Community Work at YMCA college before studying for an Informal Education degree at Brunel University.

Paul died in hospital on January 16 with his daughters Hayli and Shireen by his side, and former students and colleagues have paid tribute with moving remarks.

Liverpool DJ and founder of L100, Mervyn Lynch, said "Paul will always be remembered for his positivity, kindness and genuine community spirit."

Historian Laurence Westgaph said Paul was "a beautiful man and a role model of mine" and colleague Dove Ross-Williams spoke of a "soul brother and closest friend,"

Fellow youth worker Phil Windever spoke of how "Liverpool and the world of youth workers lost a legend this morning."

He added: "Paul was the informal educators' educator. The artists' mentor. The most beautiful and soothing person anyone could meet."

Youth worker Stephen Nze said Paul was "one of the most gentle spirits you would have come across...calm and ready and willing to listen" while event Manager Andrea Hefferman said: "I don’t know where to start. All I can say is, I’m going to miss you so much...my second dad".

Paul's daughters, Hayli and Shireen, spoke of their pride at the tributes to their father.

They said: "We are beyond overwhelmed by the love for our Dad.

"We're so proud of all he did for so many in the community.".
