Tributes to Kerry Katona's ex George Kay following his shock death aged just 39

Tributes were paid tonight to Kerry Katona's ex-husband and former Warrington Wolves player George Kay who has died at the age of 39 .

George, who is the father of Kerry's youngest daugter Dylan-George, aged five, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital yesterday after a suspected overdoes .

According to The Mirror Kerry was heartbroken after being told about his death.

Married to the Atomic Kitten star between 2014 and 2017 George had a history of mental health issues and drug use.

They met as teenagers while pupils at Padgate High School in Warrington .

The couple married in September 2014 but their relationship soured, with a restraining order in place keeping George away from Kerry after reports he was violent towards her.

Charity Balls to Cancer wrote: "We have just heard the terrible news that our ambassador George Kay died overnight. We send our love and best wished to Kerry and his family."

Essex TV wrote on Twitter: "RIP George Kay. Never a dull moment filming with George."

And 911 singer Lee Brenna, who worked with Kerry on ITV2 reality show The Big Reunion, said: "Really sad news, far too young."

The Mirror reported a close family friend of Kerry saying: “Kerry was told this afternoon that George suffered an overdose and was taken to hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

“No one yet knows what he overdosed on or whether it was intentional or an accident.

“Kerry is heartbroken, he’s DJ’s dad and she loved him once.

“She can’t bear the thought of explaining to her daughter what has happened.”

Last year Kerry revealed the identity of her new boyfriend - fitness hunk Ryan Mahoney.

It is understood she was in London at the time she received the news about George's death.
