Hansa Patel, 62, was found suffering from head injuries at the terraced home she shared with her husband and Shanil Patel, 31, in Drew Gardens, Greenford.
The Ealing Hospital worker was pronounced dead at the scene at about 5pm on Wednesday.
A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
Shanil Patel, 31, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Friday, charged with his mother’s murder.
A neighbour saw Mrs Patel’s distraught husband with his head in his hands as spoke to police outside the property.
The woman said: “My heart goes out to him it really does. They were a very nice quiet family.
“My son used to play cricket with their son in the street. I watched him grow up.
“The father told me his wife was off work at the moment but was hoping to retire this year at Ealing hospital.
“It’s awful, she was so kind, it’s so painful. They have lived here a long time, my heart sinks for them all.
“I didn’t hear anything because everyone is staying inside, I looked out and there was police outside talking to the father.”
Neighbour Kharis George, 34, told the Standard: "She’s beautiful, it's so sad. She always wore her traditional clothes whenever I saw her. They are a great family and were very respectful. It’s upsetting what has happened, everyone on the street is very neighbourly.
"My thoughts and condolences go out to the whole family. This is very tough and nobody should have to go through this ever. I just feel awful for them all."

“I would like to reassure residents who will have noted a large police presence in the area last night and throughout today. These officers are there to assist with the investigation and also to provide local reassurance and support.”
Patel was remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday December 1, the Metropolitan Police said.
